Is He Your Father ?

is he your father?

One of my favorite hobbies is making old stuff look new again. Giving a new spin to an old idea or different perspective to something that is familiar. Most of you have rehearsed the Lord’s prayer for years, you know it by heart.

But do you the power in that prayer? It is written, “get wisdom but in all you getting get understanding”. Understanding is the secret spice that drives you to apply all the knowledge you have gathered.  And applied knowledge is what we call wisdom.

Remember when the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, which shows us that prayer is a learned skill. It is something you have to learn and master. The great news is that we have a template from the man himself, Jesus Christ. So there’s no need to guess.

There is the structure to follow. Engage your understanding when praying. (Matt6:9-15)

Our Father – Is he your father ? Do you treat him like your father, with the respect and honor a father deserves. Or do you treat him like a “sugar daddy” only waiting for him to give you things and if he doesn’t you put him on the sideline. In addition, are you praying just for you or for other people? The intention is to pray for other people too.

Hallowed be your name – This is where you show honor and praise to the King

Your kingdom come – God’s kingdom is to come here on earth. So be expectant for the manifestation of the things in heaven to happen here on earth. So healing, supernatural provisions, divine direction, favor with God and man should be the norm.

Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven –  It’s God’s will to have earth look like heaven. So don’t be shocked to see heavenly things happen to you. It’s your father’s pleasure for you to live like he lives in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread – A fresh word for the day for empowerment, strength, guidance, healing whichever kind of bread you need for the day.

And forgive us our debts, – Time for repentance to God and we know he always forgives our infirmities.

As we also have forgiven our debtors. – God forgives us on condition we forgive others. Forgive those who have wronged you. Forgiveness is a choice. In most cases you many not have the ability to forgive because of the depth of pain you are feeling. That’s why you have to call on God to give you the strength to forgive.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. – Asking for divine guidance so we are in his will at all time.

Or if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. – Forgiving others and forgiving yourself is a big deal. There’s a condition here that we are forgiven on condition we forgive other people. The good news is that God helps us forgive by filling us with unconditional love. It’s a choice to forgive and it’s a choice to love. Usually the feeling follow later

But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

In summary:

  1. Make his your father if his not
  2. Pray for yourself and others
  3. Pray without ceasing
  4. Give God honor and praise
  5. Ask for your daily WORD. As his word is a light into your feet
  6. Have a pure and clean heart. Forgiving those who have wronged you
  7. Have expectation that your prayers will be answered

Let me know how prayer has changed your life.
