Letting Go Of Fear: Commonly Asked Questions

I hear these questions a lot. So i decided to answer them based on my personal experiences. The fears we face in life are not unique per individual. Your brothers and sisters have experienced most of these fears and have been able to combat them. You have the spirit of love, power and a sound mind. And greater is he that is in you than the evil that is in the world. Never feel alone and think your situation can not be solved. All things are possible through Christ Jesus.

  1. What is a fear that has set you back professionally? Many years ago as I worked in the corporate world, I had the desire to start my own business. But I was so afraid to leave the corporate world due to the illusion of the safety net. The fear of the unknown, “what IF this” and “what IF that” caused me to freeze in my tracks. I didn’t know anyone in my immediate circle that had ever made such a lap of faith.  It took me 4 years to gather up the confidence of becoming a full time business owner.
  1. How
did your fear inhibit you? Since I was not fully engaged in my company, fear contributed to slow business growth. On a given day, I could come home exhausted both mentally and physically that I couldn’t contribute much to the business. Secondly, there was an increase in frustration. I knew I was supposed to be empowering women but I spent the best times of my day engaging in activities that had nothing to do with my purpose.
  1. What have you done to overcome
this fear ? It was a combination of things that helped me overcome the fear. Mindset – After learning that fear is contagious, and consistently listening to negative news does not help my progress. I chose to only think on things that are positive, true and of good report. That meant, my use of any kind of media (TV & social media) was highly controlled.
  • Mentors – I found inspiring people like Dr. David Oyedepo and Dr. Myles Munroe that could speak into my life. Through I have never met them in person, there books, newsletters and videos helped me build my faith and stay on track
  • Identity and Authority – As a purpose-driven woman, I had to understand my identity in Christ and the authority I have in fulfilling my purpose. The awareness that my purpose was God given and he is obligated to support me all the way, boosted my confidence that fear had no place anymore.  In addition, I understood that I was uniquely and wonderfully made, therefore what I bring to the marketplace is authentic and useful in changing a generation of women. Holding back would be a disservice.
  • Faith – After learning that faith and fear cannot reside in the same space. I continually build my faith, as I believe for bigger and better things in my business. Faith grows by consistently hearing the word of God. When you are in faith, fear is gone. And the reverse is true.
  1. What has changed in your career
since you have let go of your fear? Since letting go of my fears, I made the transition from the corporate world to business owner, teaching and equipping purpose-driven women.
  1. Do you have any other
tips or advice for overcoming fears? Interestingly, fear can take on different forms for example, procrastination, self-sabotage, low self-esteem, anxiety, stress and so many more. Therefore, overcoming fear is a continuous process. Each time you grow and attempt new adventures, fear may want to creep in. The good news is that, the same tools I used to commit fully to my business are the same tools I use as I grow, expand and reach for greater horizons.
